The Christian world would have you believe Satanists are evil, corrupt, have no respect for life and wish to bring about the end of the world. This of course is ridiculous.
Satanists do not believe in Satan as a living entity or as a God; they view Satan as a basic pre-Christian pagan force or principle of nature. Satanism is a way of life and not about worshipping a mythical beast with horns and a pitchfork.
Satanists respect and celebrate life to the full.
Satanists do not harm animals or humans in anyway. (There are some sick individuals who do and claim to do it in the name of Satan but they are not Satanists and no true Satanist would condone such actions).
Satanism is not all about taking drugs.
Satanists are tolerant of other religions and do not hate Christians or any other religion. They simply tend to ignore them and have no interest in them.
Satanists love their friends and family and those who deserve it but do not waste it on those who do not.
Satanists are vengeful once wronged and do not turn the other cheek to allow themselves to wronged again. That is of course not to say disputes cannot be settled in a reasonable and intelligent manner but a satanist will not take any crap.
Satanists believe in freewill and freethinking, not that you should follow something blindly and unquestioningly.
Satanist believe in wisdom and knowledge and detest stupidity and ignorance.

Called "The Black Pope" by many of his followers, Anton La Vey began the road to High Priesthood of the (lurch of Satan when he was only 16 years old and an organ player in a carnival:
"On Saturday night I would see men lusting after halfnaked girls dancing at the carnival, and on Sunday morning when I was playing the organ for tent-show evangelists at the other end of the carnival lot, I would see these same men sitting in the pews with their wives and children, asking God to forgive them and purge them of carnal desires. And the next Saturday night they'd be back at The carnival or some other place of indulgence.
"I knew then that the Christian Church thrives on hypocrisy, and that man's carnal nature will out!"
From that time early in his life his path was clear. Finally, on the last night of April, 1966 -- Walpurgisnacht, the most important festival of the believers in witchcraft -- LaVey shaved his head in the tradition of Ancient executioners and announced the formation of The Church Of Satan. He had seen the need for a church that would recapture man's body and his carnal desires as objects of celebration. "Since worship of fleshly things produces pleasure," he said, "there would then be a temple of glorious indulgence . . ."

The Satanic Bible written by Anton La Vey, the founder of the Church of Satan, contains the core principles of Satanists and is considered the very foundation of modern Satanism. Along with essays, observations and some rituals, more importantly it holds the nine Satanic Statements which every true Satanist lives by.
